~PGL Radio~Johnny’s Daughter~ Wednesday March 10th~
Posted (PhatGurlLove) in Features, Music, PGL Radio, Vocalist on March-10-2010

Soulstice Movement

TUNE IN WEDNESDAY @ 11PM

Call in number: (347) 855-8245!

Featured Guest:

Johnny’s Daughter is a talented and emerging R&B/Soul singer/songwriter/melodist/vocal arranger/producer. She began writing at an early age, but it wasn’t until after the passing of her father over a decade later that her writing became her therapy, art and message. Writing lyrics and melody came very naturally as she sought to connect with her listeners and share stories that are often part of our common human experience. She is sure to deliver a lyrical experience to which every audience can relate with her prolific art of storytelling. She often writes about relationship experiences and powerful messages of hope that bring awareness to social and economic issues that plague our communities. Her infectious melodies and production as well as her soulful vocal sound are ones that she can call her own and will surely put her next on your play list. Contact SESAC, NYC for licensing and publishing information at www.sesac.com. Johnny’s Daughter currently resides in the Bull City, Durham North Carolina

Press/Reviews:

DJ Cotton El Murkot (WCOM 103.5FM Chapel Hill/Carrboro) – “This girl has got something special.”

“Voices” – Johnny’s Daughter – “Wow, Johnny’s Daughter has a really beautiful voice, she sounds a little bit like Mary J. Blige IMO. The lyrics throughout the verses she sang were very powerful and the chorus was fantastic. The production on this track is classic… This is another very good song.” – hiphoputopia.com

“Pride” – Johnny’s Daughter – “Again, Johnny’s Daughter did an excellent job with the singing on this track, I don’t know if it’s as good as the other track but it still very good. The production is kind of minimal on this track but it works well because it helps you to focus on the vocals more while keeping up the tempo, I like this.” – hiphoputopia.com

“Let It Go” (Remix) ft. Johnny’s Daughter, Keynote Speaker & Effrain Colon – “Yeh, this song has a really good feeling to it….and of course Johnny’s Daughter created an incredible chorus. I was feeling the beat too, that guitar at the end was crazy but I liked it.” – hiphoputopia.com

~The Father’s Rockstar~
Posted (PhatGurlLove) in Features, PGL Radio on October-27-2009

mrfr

Fatherhood is a community effort Fathers Rock  and they are looking for their fans to assist with naming their superhero.  Fathers Rock motto is Fatherhood the problem solver and all Superheroes solved problems from Superman, Batman, etc. Fathers and Father Figures are …no different.  So, from today until Fri. we are taking all suggestions, whoever superhero name we pick FR will give the winner a $25 American Exp. Gift card.

Next month on November the 11th wee will have a this special guest on PGL Radio. His name is Mr. Kashaun Cooper. Also known as Mr. Fathers Rock..(Christened by me of course…lol) He is the owner and creator of Father’s Rock. He is now running a contest to name their SuperHero!

Fathers Rock’s mission is to help strengthen communities by recognizing and appreciating GREAT Fathers and Father Figures through banquets, dinners, an other community events. We encourage you to nominate any OUTSTANDING Father or Father Figure to our recognition panel by writing a brief letter, 250 words or less, or sending in a video message expressing how he is a GREAT Father or Father Figure.

Recognizing Great Fathers By Gifts of Recognition such as:

Fishing Trips, yearly recognition, dinners, clothing, sports tickets, gift certificates, and quarterly awards.

Mr. FR goes on to state on his website that: “If I never become rich, famous, or own a house or fancy car, I have the greatest opportunity to make a difference in society through my children. Our children are our personalized thumbprint on the earth. The supreme investment we as fathers can make aren’t in stocks, bonds, or real estate, rather it is investing in our children. The rate of return is based on how much we invest in our children. Our success in life is too big for one generation. Consequently, our success must be passed down. One of the best things about this type of investment is that there isn’t an expiration date. Great fathering goes many generations deep.”

He exemplifies what a ROCKING FATHER should be! Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming show. To find out more information on Fathers Rock, Please click the icon below.

~On The Air~
Posted (PhatGurlLove) in Features, Obesity, Open Mic, Poetry, Spoken Word on September-11-2009

Phatgurllove Radio is coming soon! We will talk about all issues related to being Obese and Overweight. I will speak to BBW’s and BHM’s. We will discuss their experiences and how it has shaped their life. Dating, children, employment, and socialization are all affected when overweight. I will be playing the best of Old School, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Neo-soul radio. I am so excited about this. This has been a long time coming! There will also be an open mic session on a weeknight. (TBD) There will also be a Poem of the day related to the show topic. Sometimes there will be a co-host! I look forward to hearing from you. Please be ready to call in and share or chat with us! Below is some information that I found quite disturbing…..

FYI: Obesity by Race and Ethnicity

New Obesity Data Shows Blacks Have the Highest Rates of Obesity

Blacks had 51 percent higher prevalence of obesity, and Hispanics had 21 percent higher obesity prevalence compared with whites. (2006-2008)

Greater prevalences of obesity for blacks and whites were found in the South and Midwest than in the West and Northeast. Hispanics in the Northeast had lower obesity prevalence than Hispanics in the Midwest, South or West.

We need to do something and fast! We have a generation of children out there that need us and we must set an example for them by being able to be healthy and eat right so we can grow old with our children. Lead by example! Want to get started early? Go here and view some nice simple and HEALTHY recipes. If you know of any other sites, please leave them in the comment section and I will be sure to provide you with my review of the site and give them a shout out when on the air! Thanks to any new subscribers and thank you to the ones that have been hanging on! Your walk with me is greatly appreciated!
